Upon graduating from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, Dr. Felton returned to her home region of Western New York State to work with "all creatures great and small." Although dairy cows were her first calling. New York City proved too powerful an attraction. After practicing for 3 years in Batavia, she relocated, and joined the staff at the Humane Society of New York. There, she developed a profound interest in shelter and preventive medicine. When the opportunity became available to work with B.A.R.C. to improve and grow their shelter in Williamsburg, she couldn't refuse. Thus in 1996, Felton Veterinary Services was born. The practice has been growing and flourishing with the neighborhood - and B.A.R.C. - ever since.
Dr. Felton is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, certified in Companion Animal Practice. She also holds an M.B.A. in marketing and finance from the Lubin Graduate School of Business, Pace University. Her special interests are internal medicine, preventive and shelter medicine, and client education.
When not working, Dr.F enjoys gardening, gourmet dining and cooking, traveling, and cheering for the Mets. |
| Doctor Schwartz |
|
|
| A native of Brooklyn, Dr. Schwartz always wanted to be a veterinarian. However, when she applied, women were being accepted into veterinary schools in very small numbers. She became a speech pathologist and audiologist. She also worked in the film business. She still longed to be a veterinarian so, in the mid 70's, she attended veterinary school in Italy. Since graduation, Dr.Schwartz has returned to New York City where she worked for 17 years at the ASPCA hospital. She became acting Director of the Veterinary Staff for several years at the ASPCA, where she met Dr. Felton. Later she worked at the Humane Society of New York. Dr. Schwartz speaks Spanish, Italian and, of course, English. When not working, she is kick boxing at the gym. |

All of the above cats are presently living at the office and are owned by Dr. Felton. They are all cats that were originally from BARC but were considered unadoptable. The General Lee came to us as a small kitten and we were informed that he was a girl, so unfortunately his original name was Rosa Lee. We decided to keep the "Lee" part of his name, but transformed it into something a little more masculine for him. He was a chronic snuffler, but with some therapeutic intervention he is now much better. He's now the Man of the House, making lots of trouble and keeping the staff on their toes. Anjelica also came to us as a kitten, but was stunted and a little anemic. We have now diagnosed her with hypothyroidism (extremely rare in cats and a first for FVS!). She's on medicine and doing well, but sadly a side effect of her condition is portliness. Lady came to us as an adult and suffered from a bad case of ringworm. She was almost completely bald and emaciated. Now she's the Office Diva, covered in long flowing hair and teaching all the new kitties how to behave. All of our house cats get free reign over the office after hours, as well as on days when we have no appointments. They receive as much food and love as we (and our clients) can give them.
