Dr. Felton

Learn more about Dr. Felton and her experience.

Upon graduating from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, Dr. Felton returned to her home region of Western New York State to work with "all creatures' great and small." Although dairy cows were her first calling. New York City proved too powerful an attraction. After practicing for 3 years in Batavia, she relocated, and joined the staff at the Humane Society of New York. There, she developed a profound interest in shelter and preventive medicine. When the opportunity became available to work with B.A.R.C. to improve and grow their shelter in Williamsburg, she couldn't refuse. Thus in 1996, Felton Veterinary Services was born. The practice has been growing and flourishing with the neighborhood - and B.A.R.C. - ever since. Dr. Felton is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, certified in Companion Animal Practice, and USDA-accredited for International Health Certificates.  She also holds an M.B.A. in marketing and finance from the Lubin Graduate School of Business, Pace University. Her special interests are internal medicine, preventive and shelter medicine, and client education.

A native of Brooklyn, Dr. Schwartz always wanted to be a veterinarian. However, when she applied, women were being accepted into veterinary schools in very small numbers. She became a speech pathologist and audiologist. She also worked in the film business. She still longed to be a veterinarian so, in the mid 70's, she attended veterinary school in Italy. Since graduation, Dr. Schwartz has returned to New York City where she worked for 17 years at the ASPCA hospital. She became acting Director of the Veterinary Staff for several years at the ASPCA, where she met Dr. Felton. Later she worked at the Humane Society of New York. Dr. Schwartz speaks Spanish, Italian, and of course, English. Dr. Schwartz is also USDA-accredited for International Health Certificates.
