At Felton Veterinary Services, our philosophy is to combine the intimate and comfortable experience of a small local practice with the highest standards of medical care, including state-of-the-art wellness plans and innovative management of chronic diseases.  We strive to be part of a team with our patients’ owners, taking the necessary steps to tailor and enact the best preventive care or therapeutic treatment strategies for each individual pet, based on their unique needs and lifestyle.  Additionally, our office maintains close relationships with specialists at several of New York City’s leading referral hospitals, including Blue Pearl, Animal Medical Center, and the Animal Endocrine Clinic, so there is never a shortage of options when it comes to diagnosing and managing your pet’s illness.

Since Felton Veterinary Services first opened its doors, our practice has been anchored by the steadfast belief that the bond between pets and their owners is something that prevails and endures through the many changes to our lives and our communities.  We make cherishing and preserving that special bond our fundamental goal in everything we do.  Just as we consider our pets to be integral parts of our own families, so too do we consider our patients and their owners as integral parts of this practice.

We look forward to playing a role in many years of healthy, happy, loving affection between you and your four-legged family members.

Felton Veterinary Services was established in 1996 to provide veterinary assistance to the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition (BARC Shelter).  Utilizing her experience at the Humane Society of New York, Dr. Felton sought to bring primary medical care to the under-recognized population of stray and shelter-adopted animals living in the North Brooklyn communities of Williamsburg and Greenpoint.  Over the years, the practice has slowly expanded to treat feline and canine residents from all walks of life in our growing and diverse neighborhood.

One of the founders of BARC Shelter, Anthony Spoto passed away unexpectedly on March 15th, 2018. I would never have my business if it was not for Tony’s encouragement, advice, and labor. He was often my assistant back in the early days, and went on many house calls with me. He taught me so much about being a business owner and not just employee. He was my friend since the early 1990’s. It is a huge loss and the “compound” at Wythe and N 1st will never be the same.

Via the Bar Shelter website:

We are deeply saddened to announce that one of our founders and President of BARC Shelter, Anthony Spoto, known as Tony to all who loved him, passed away unexpectedly on March 15th, 2018.

Tony was an innovator, who along with his partner Vincent Spinola, opened the first animal shelter in Brooklyn back when there was no place for the many discarded cats and dogs to go. He greatly improved the welfare and

lives of so many animals in need, creating a one-of kind, no-kill animal shelter that is well-loved by animals and humans alike.

Tony understood each individual animal in his care. He was always gentle, compassionate, and generous to all he met. He was a hero to the thousands of dogs and cats that have entered BARC Shelter where they could heal and

blossom while waiting to find their forever homes.

No one got past Tony without him making them laugh.

We are forever in debt to the immense love and work Tony put into providing a safe and special place for so many. He will be missed endlessly by so many who were lucky enough to call him a friend, share a smile with him, or watch him care for a cat or dog in need.
